Jason Isaacs loves Harry Potter reboot’s Lucius Malfoy casting

Jason Isaacs shared a video on Instagram reacting to the news of Johnny Flynn’s casting in the new Harry Potter TV reboot. He called Flynn “a brilliant actor” and “a monstrously talented renaissance man.”

He said, “I just heard that the great Johnny Flynn will be playing Mr. Malfoy in the new HBO TV series, which is sensational news for Harry Potter fans.” Isaacs also praised Flynn as “a really lovely guy” and expressed excitement to see what he brings to the role.

He followed up the video with a light-hearted post on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “A fantastic actor, a lovely man and, irritatingly, a rather brilliant musician too. Couldn’t have handed the snake-topped baton on to anyone better. Just please don’t make him sing…”

Isaacs and Flynn previously worked together on the 2021 film Operation Mincemeat. Flynn’s casting marks a significant update for the reboot, which has begun announcing its ensemble ahead of filming.

Isaacs also shared on Instagram, humorously writing, “Thrilled to be passing the keys to Malfoy Manor to @johnnyflynnmusic… Just have some respect for your elders and leave my hair products in the drawers please.”

The series, set to stream on HBO, will be showrun by Francesca Gardiner and directed by Mark Mylod. Additional casting details continue to emerge as production gears up for the latest adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World.
