Hot Toys Makes Captain Rex as Seen in Ahsoka Flashbacks

So, how big a fan of Star Wars‘ Captain Rex are you? Hot Toys is about to see just how willing devoted fans are to pay for any variation, rolling out a new version for preorder based on his brief scenes in live-action for Ahsoka. While some fans have theories that Rex became the white-bearded Endor trooper in Return of the Jedi, Ahsoka marked his official live-action debut after being a mainstay in the Clone Wars cartoons and beyond. Rex, a good friend to Ahsoka and pre-Vader Anakin, managed to avoid Order 66 and grow older, fatter, and beardier while fighting for the rebellion in his later years.

Rex ‘n’ Effect

The thing is, Hot Toys already made a Captain Rex with Phase II (Revenge of the Sith-style) armor and a Temuera Morrison headsculpt. And it’s still in stock! The new one, clad in armor with interchangeable Phase I (Attack of the Clones) and Phase II parts, costs $5 more, and doesn’t include an unmasked head. The massive irony, of course, is that Morrison only voiced the character for Ahsoka — the version that comes with the Morrison head was voiced by Dee Bradley Baker in animation.

So, how hardcore are you about obtaining every Rex variant? The chance to get Old Man Rex may hinge in the balance. Sticklers for live-action replicas are the ones being marketed to here. Per the official description, this figure features a “detailed recreation of Rex’s distinctive Clone Trooper armor and helmet with amazing paint applications, interchangeable Clone Trooper Phase 1 and Phase 2 armor parts and pauldrons, Rex’s signature dual blaster pistols as well as a blaster rifle, a thermal detonator, and a newly designed sand theme figure base!”

Sand. It’s coarse, rough, and gets everywhere. No wonder Anakin turned on Rex.
