Winston Duke’s Batman will live to fight another day. Nearly a month after David S. Goyer’s Batman Unburied podcast wrapped up its initial 10-episode run, Spotify (via Variety) has confirmed that a second season is currently in the works, with Duke (Black Panther) reprising his role as the voice of the Dark Knight.
Spotify announced the news during Spotify’s “Dive Into the Batman Audio Universe” panel at Cannes Lions earlier today. Dawn Ostroff, Spotify’s chief content and advertising business officer, served as the panel’s moderator. Joining her onstage were Duke and Riddler voice actor Hasan Minhaj. Peter Girardi, the executive vice president of alternative programming at Warner Bros. Animation and Blue Ribbon Content, made an appearance as well.

Batman Unburied debuted two new chapters each week from May 3 until May 31. The beginning of the series introduced Duke’s Bruce Wayne as a forensic pathologist who had never heard the name “Batman” before. Instead, he spends his evenings in the depths of Gotham Hospital, examining cadavers and occasionally butting heads with his father, Thomas Wayne, the hospital’s chief surgeon. In this reality, the Waynes were never gunned down in Crime Alley all those years ago. Bruce’s work eventually leads him to investigate the victims of a new serial killer known as the Harvester. But he soon learns that the Harvester is a pawn in a larger game, and reality isn’t what it seems…
Despite any misgivings from fans, Unburied was a surprise hit when it premiered last month. It quickly rose to the top of Spotify’s global podcast charts, holding onto the #1 spot in at least 11 markets for more than two weeks. The series’ primary voice cast also featured Gina Rodriguez as Barbara Gordon, Jason Isaacs as Alfred Pennyworth, and Sam Witwer as the Harvester. Other cast members include Lance Reddick, Emmy Raver-Lampman, John Rhys-Davies, Jessica Marie Garcia, Toks Olagundoye, Jim Pirri, and Ashly Burch.
