Exclusive: Juan Carlos Fresnadillo Talks Highlander

Granted, the movies were never huge commercial successes, at least theatrically, as seen by Highlander: Endgame which grossed just 12.8 million total in 2000–it cost $15 million–but Summit Entertainment has been interested in reviving and rebooting the franchise, a plan that’s been in the works for nearly four years.

Most recently, director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later) was named to reboot the character and while speaking with Fresnadillo and actor Clive Owen for their latest film Intruders, SuperHeroHype sister site ShockTillYouDrop.com got around to asking Fresnadillo about the anticipated reboot, which is still in the cards.

“I’m so keen to make it, because I think it would be a very interesting new approach into that world, but let’s see because we’re in an early stage still,” he told them.

When asked whether they might cast a new face for the main role or find a known actor, he responded:

“Some kind of new flavor, how about that? Especially because of the big theme of the story, which is the immortality as a curse, because I found it so interesting.”
