Zoe Saldana Says Avatar Sequels Will Take Eight to Nine Months to Film

Though she’ll be appearing as the green-skinned assassin Gamora in this weekend’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Zoe Saldana is about to step back into the shoes of the blue-skinned Neytiri for James Cameron’s Avatar sequels. Speaking with the Daily Mirror, Saldana provided an update on the upcoming three sequels, which she says will shoot in Los Angeles and will take the better part of a year.

“James Cameron is still working on the final drafts of the script and then everyone in the cast will get the call. We’re going to be shooting mainly in Los Angeles and that will make things easier for me since I live there. Because we’re doing the sequels back-to-back and it’s going to take at least eight or nine months or more to finish the (three) films.”

Set to also feature the return of cast members Sam Worthington, Stephen Lang and Sigourney Weaver, Avatar 2 is scheduled for a December 2016 release which will be followed by Avatar 3 in December of 2017 and Avatar 4 in 2018. The original film remains the top grossing movie of all time with $2.782 billion at the worldwide box office.

Avatar 2, 3, and 4 will be produced by Cameron and Jon Landau through their Lightstorm Entertainment.
