SDCC Video Exclusive: Green Lantern Writer/Producer Greg Berlanti

July 26, 2010

Talking about GL, The Flash and the new DC Entertainment movie universe

One of the more eagerly-anticipated panels at Comic-Con this year was the one for Warner Bros. and D.C. Entertainment's Green Lantern, which opens on June 17, 2011. You can read about what we got to see at the panel here, but the teaser footage went by so fast it left us with a ton more questions.

Fortunately, after the panel, ComingSoon.net/SuperHeroHype had a chance to sit down briefly with the film's writer and producer Greg Berlanti to talk about the movie. We previously spoke to him at ShoWest earlier this year, where he was presenting footage from his directorial debut, an upcoming romantic comedy called Life as We Know It, but as we've learned, his own heart belongs to the world of comic books, which is why he's been so involved in bringing Hal Jordan's cast of characters to the screen. Berlanti was also attending Comic-Con to premiere the pilot for his upcoming television show "No Ordinary Family," which also delves into the world of superheroes, in this a family of superheroes ala The Fantastic Four or The Incredibles.

We ended up talking about many things relating to the new DC Universe being created for the movies, how Berlanti got involved with Green Lantern and his working relationship with Geoff Johns, the long-time and current writer of the "Green Lantern" comics. We also learned that the only human Green Lantern in the movie will be Hal Jordan, so no Guy Gardner or John Stewart just yet. Finally, we also got a progress report on the planned movie starring Hal's good friend Barry Allen a.k.a The Flash

Watch the video interview below to learn more about Berlanti's involvement in bringing these DC Comics characters to the big screen.

Nice.. "there wouldn't be a green lantern movie, right now, without Rebirth... and that's Geoff."

Way to recognize the source material Berlanti! The writer is a fan and cares about the product.. last time I saw a set up like this we got Iron Man 1. Nay say all you like but this movie has some great potential.

For those that find something to hate in every movie.. why spend money on this form of entertainment? Take up quilting.. you'll feel better.

You know? It there is an interesting similarity between Greg Berlanti and Ralph Macchio. They look alike. Yeah The Flash with the Barry Allen version as Greg mentioned will intercept together some of the varity of plot element between Green Lantern and The Flash. For now stick with Hal and Barry because they fight together during Crisis. I'm asuming the Green Lantern film takes place years before the events the Infinit Crisis occurs. Greg as producer is assigned to a group of writers with Michael Green and Marc Guggenheim. THE FLASH will be released 2013 according to IMDB. It's been updated.

Way to go SHH, I like everything Berlanti says, it's good when people like him give credit and appreciate the comic writers and creators.

As for the Flash movie, I wonder if they'll let John Wesley Shipp make a cameo? I mean, it only makes sense! Laters!

I hope this flash movie has some of the "legacy" element that Goyer (batman begins, TDK)had planned for the story.
Having Barry , but acknowledging Jay Garrick (John Wesley Shipp) before him and having some sort of hint* that Wally West could be ...one day... the next Flash.

I hope the family drama that Berlanti is talking about doesn't overshadow the epicness needed for a Green Lantern movie!!!
