The Lord of the Rings: Gollum Hits Video Game Consoles in September

Lord of the Rings fans have a lot to look forward to this fall. Not only is The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power slated to hit Amazon Prime on September 2; one day earlier, Daedalic Entertainment will also release its long-in-the-works video game centering on the One Ring’s most tragic victim. The studio has confirmed that The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will officially hit stores on September 1. You can check out their announcement below.

Additionally, PC Gamer’s Ted Litchfield recently shared his first impressions of the game after watching a 20-minute remote presentation. The demo covered two of Gollum’s main locations: Mordor and Mirkwood, both of which LOTR fans should instantly recognize. But more importantly, it revealed how the title character’s conflicting personalities each have their own playing style. The “Gollum” persona is more focused on combat, with stealth takedowns as well as “ledge shimmying” and “Gollum vision” that highlights his enemies.

Meanwhile, the “Sméagol” personality is combat-free and focuses on platforming puzzles. Litchfield also noted that players will have to make “Gollum” or “Sméagol”-based moral choices throughout the game, and these will affect the story going forward.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Daedalic is also planning a Nintendo Switch version of the game to be released at a later date.
