Zack Snyder’s iconic fantasy action franchise may be returning, bringing the epic battle world back to audiences in a brand-new format. Fans of the 300 franchise have a reason to celebrate as fresh reports point toward a potential television expansion.
According to film critic John Rocha, Netflix and Warner Bros. are working on a 300 TV show. The report mentions the show would be a ‘prequel,’ and Zack Snyder is attached to direct the pilot. While the project has not received a formal series order yet, a writers’ room has reportedly been assembled.
Fans should treat it as an early development update since the studios have not greenlit the project. The new report also corroborates Variety’s 2024 report, which stated that Warner Bros. Television was in early talks with Snyder to direct and executive produce a 300 prequel show.
As per the report, producers Deborah Snyder, Wesley Coller, Gianni Nunnari, Mark Canton, and Bernie Goldmann were also in talks to return.
For now, Netflix and Warner Bros. have not confirmed the series.
The original 2007 film starring Gerard Butler was adapted from Frank Miller and Lynn Varley’s 1998 graphic novel. The film became a huge box office hit, having grossed more than $450 million worldwide. A sequel, titled 300: Rise of an Empire, was released in 2014 and earned more than $330 million.
What else is Zack Snyder working on besides the rumored 300 prequel show?
Beyond the rumored 300 prequel series, Snyder has several projects moving forward on his production slate.
The filmmaker is currently focused on his upcoming action thriller, The Last Photograph, a project that was announced more than a decade ago. Starring Stuart Martin, Fra Free, Jackie Kay, and many more, the film is currently in the post-production stage. Apart from directing his long-awaited project, Snyder also penned the script while serving as a producer and cinematographer.
Alongside The Last Photograph, Snyder is gearing up to write and direct the reimagined version of 1981’s sci-fi action film, Escape from New York. He is also developing an upcoming action film centered on an elite LAPD unit.
