Tomb Raider Cast Adds Harry Potter & House of the Dragon Stars

Prime Video has finally announced the cast for Tomb Raider, including the new members who will be joining previously announced lead Sophie Turner. This live-action adaptation serves as Turner’s first high-profile TV project in over six years after Game of Thrones concluded its 8-season run.

“Tomb Raider boasts a plethora of iconic characters. I am thrilled to have been able to bring some personal and fan favourites to the screen while also introducing a few new rascals of our own to the mix. This cast is beyond my wildest dreams!” showrunner Phoebe Waller-Bridge said in a statement.

Who is joining the Tomb Raider cast?

Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter franchise), Bill Paterson (House of the Dragon), Celia Imrie (Nanny McPhee), Jack Bannon (Pennyworth), John Heffernan (A Gentleman in Moscow), Paterson Joseph (Wonka), Sasha Luss (Anna), Juliette Motamed (We Are Lady Parts), and August Wittgenstein (Das Boot) have been tapped to join Prime Video’s Tomb Raider cast. Following previous reports about their involvement, Academy Award nominee Sigourney Weaver and Martin Bobb-Semple (Pandora)’s castings have also been confirmed.

“Tomb Raider has always been defined by bold storytelling and unforgettable characters, and these new cast members bring incredible depth and gravitas to the series,” Amazon MGM Studios boss Peter Friedlander said. “With talents like Sigourney Weaver and Jason Isaacs joining the ensemble, we’re elevating this world in exciting new ways, and can’t wait for our global Prime Video audience to experience this next chapter of Tomb Raider.”

Listed below are the cast’s character descriptions:

  • Bobb-Semple’s Zip is Lara Croft’s long-standing tech support and friend.
  • Isaacs’ Atlas DeMornay is Lara’s uncle.
  • Paterson’s Winston is the long-standing Croft family butler.
  • Bannon’s Gerry is Lara’s personal pilot and snack collector.

Heffernan’s David is an exhausted government official who finds himself tangled up in Lara’s unusual world.
  • Imrie’s Francine is the Head of Advancement at the British Museum, focused solely on raising funds and glasses of champagne.
  • Joseph’s Thomas Warner is a senior government official brought in to clean up an almighty mess.
  • Luss’ Sasha is a fierce, deeply competitive new adversary of Lara’s.
  • Motamed’s Georgia is a devoted, by-the-books curator at the British Museum, dedicated to the ‘proper’ preservation of history.
  • Weaver’s Evelyn Wallis is a mysterious, high-flying woman who is keen to exploit Lara’s talents.
  • Wittgenstein’s Lukas is an illegal raider who shares history with Lara in more ways than one.

The show is created, written, and executive-produced by showrunner Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who has been attached to the project for over three years now. It is executive-produced by co-showrunner Chad Hodge and director Jonathan Van Tulleken, alongside Crystal Dynamics, Jenny Robins, Dmitri M. Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg, Timothy I. Stevenson, Michael Scheel, and Matt McInnis, with Jan R. Martin set as a producer. It is a production by Amazon MGM Studios and Legendary Television.

Further details about its plot are still being kept under wraps, but it was initially described as an epic globe-trotting adventure. This marks the latest live-action adaptation of Crystal Dynamics’ hit video game series, following Angelina Jolie’s popular Lara Croft: Tomb Raider movies, and Alicia Vikander’s 2018 remake. As part of her overall deal with Amazon MGM Studios, Waller-Bridge had signed on to serve as the project’s writer and executive producer.
