Marvel Studios’ Hawkeye miniseries has finally received a new update from lead star Jeremy Renner. Since the show’s debut in 2021, the Academy Award nominee hasn’t been seen in a Marvel Cinematic Universe project.
Last May, Renner shared that he turned down Marvel Studios’ initial offer to return for Hawkeye Season 2 because they were trying to give him half of his salary from the first installment. The Marvel vet suggested that the lower salary offer might have been “a result of his near-fatal 2023 snowmobile accident.” Despite the pay dispute, Renner is still open to reprise Clint Barton/Hawkeye in Season 2 since he’s still in negotiations with the studio.
What was Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye Season 2 update?
Now, while speaking with ScreenRant, Renner opened up about the long-speculated Hawkeye Season 2, teasing that the status of the next installment isn’t certain yet since “it’s really not my (his) decision to make.” When asked if Season 2 would continue the Christmas-themed format, Renner believed that the potential next season would indeed still be set in New York during the holiday season.
“For a second season, that was always the idea to continue that narrative, even in the Christmas framework of it all, too, because they love that world in New York,” Renner said. “There’s really no more beautiful place than New York until Christmas. After Christmas is kind of bleak.”
The first season of Hawkeye was led by head writer Jonathan Igla, with Amber Finlayson & Katie Ellwood, aka Bert and Bertie, and Rhys Thomas serving as directors. Besides Renner, the show also starred Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop. It currently holds a Certified Fresh rating of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes.
