The Penguin showrunner Lauren LeFranc has given an update about a potential Season 2 and other Batman spin-off shows.
The Penguin premiered on HBO in 2024. A spin-off of 2024’s The Batman, the show sees Colin Farrell reprise his role as Oswald “Oz” Cobb/The Penguin, while Cristin Milioti plays Sofia Gigante and Rhenzy Feliz stars as Victor “Vic” Aguilar.
There’s been much talk and speculation over whether or not a second season of The Penguin could happen. Many people involved with the show’s first season have previously said they’re open to the idea of continuing the show; however, there hasn’t been any kind of official announcement about a renewal at this time.
It was also recently announced that the show is submitting itself for Emmy Awards in the limited series category, which seems to suggest that there is no Season 2 being planned at this time.
What did Lauren LeFranc say about The Penguin Season 2 and other Batman shows?
Speaking with Deadline, LeFranc said that, beyond Farrell’s willingness to do a Season 2 and get back in the Penguin makeup again, a continuation “depends on whether there’s a story that we can make richer than what we’ve already done.”
LeFranc said that she “fully arced everything” when it comes to keeping The Penguin a limited series and that she’s now “in the process of exploring what that would be, if there will be more.”
She also said that other Batman spin-off shows are still in the “early stages” of development, though she didn’t mention any specific titles or what series might come next.
While fans wait to see what the future holds for The Batman Epic Crime Saga on television, a sequel to The Batman is in the works and is currently dated for October 1, 2027. Both The Batman and The Penguin, meanwhile, are currently available to stream on Max.
