Jessica Jones: David Tennant Eager to Reprise Kilgrave in the MCU

The breakout star of Netflix‘s Jessica Jones, David Tennant, says he would be happy to revive the Marvel supervillain Kilgrave in the MCU one day.

“I’d love to do Kilgrave again, yeah Kilgrave would be great,” Tennant said to CoveredGeekly on the red carpet of the 2024 BAFTA Film Awards. “Yeah, that would be good wouldn’t it?! I mean… he did very much get his neck broken, he was very dead. But never say never in the Marvel Universe.”

Tennant’s Kilgrave served as the main antagonist to the titular character played by Krysten Ritter during the Marvel series’ first season. Possessing the ability of mind control, Kilgrave creates chaos surrounding the life of Jones with a disturbing romantic obsession for the superpowered private eye. After meeting his demise at the hands of Jones in the season finale, Kilgrave occasionally re-appeared as a hallucination to the character for the remainder of the series.

Tennant earned universal praise for his performance as Kilgrave. Rolling Stone listed the supervillain as part of its “40 Greatest TV Villains of All Time” while IGN ranked him number 79 in their list of “Top 100 Villains”.

Will Jessica Jones and Kilgrave return in the MCU?

The potential returns of Jessica Jones and Kilgrave in the MCU have been in question since the series ended in 2019. Despite the MCU reprisals of Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio from Netflix’s Daredevil series, Marvel Studios initially had not recognized the Netflix shows as canon to their main timeline. Such lack of recognition changed once Disney+ added the past Netflix shows to their lineup and eventually placed them on the official MCU timeline page.

While it is unknown if Marvel will produce a continuation of Jessica Jones, Tennant’s co-star Ritter echoed similar sentiments in wanting to return to the MCU. “I would play JJ again in a HEARTBEAT – she’s the coolest character ever and I love her! Hey, you never know what the future holds,” Ritter said. “As for now I’m so proud of the long run & the deep character work I got to do. It’s been a dream and never say never!”

All three seasons of Jessica Jones are now streaming on Disney+.
