Rosario Dawson Enters Hostile Territory in HBO Max’s DMZ Trailer

The current U.S. political climate makes now as good a time as any for a speculative TV series about a second Civil War, and HBO Max has just given us our first look at its harrowing vision of the future. After years of anticipation, the streaming service finally released the first trailer for DMZ, based on the Vertigo Comics series by Brian Wood and Riccardo Burchielli.

Rosario Dawson headlines the series as Alma Ortega, a medic who was separated from her son, Christian, during the evacuation of Manhattan at the start of the conflict. The island has since become a demilitarized zone that’s home to several gangs, militias, and warlords vying for power. Regardless, this doesn’t stop Alma from venturing across its borders in order to find Christian and bring him home.

Unfortunately, the road ahead isn’t going to be an easy one. The city is crawling with a multitude of threats, from stray bullets to stray leopards. But most of the danger comes from Parco Delgado (Benjamin Bratt), the leader of one of the most powerful gangs on the island. Alma will also have to avoid Skel (Freddy Miyares), Delgano’s top assassin whose public hit list keeps everyone afraid.

Roberto Patino developed DMZ and is executive producing the series alongside Ava DuVernay, who also directed the first episode. Ernest Dickerson helmed the remaining three installments. Additionally, HBO Max has released new key art for the series, which you can view below.

All four episodes of DMZ will premiere on HBO Max on March 17.
