Somewhere out in the galaxy, Mando confronts a bounty with a familiar threat to bring him in either warm or cold. The target chooses “cold,” but Mando ends up injured by his own Darksaber. Mando survives to limp off and collect his fee before reuniting with the Armorer from The Mandalorian season 1. She is one of the few survivors of his sect, along with Paz Vizsla, the descendant of the Darksaber’s original owner.

The Armorer chides Mando for using a beskar spear, so he allows her to melt it down. He also asks that she use it to create something for his former charge, Grogu. The Armorer explains the history of the Darksaber, and attempts to train Mando how to use it. Unfortunately, he isn’t a natural. Paz seizes that moment to duel with Mando for control of the Darksaber. Mando narrowly wins the fight, but he is also forced to confess that he removed his helmet. Mando asks for forgiveness, but he is cast out of his clan.

As a further indignity, Mando is forced to fly commercial to Tatooine. Once there, he reunites with the mechanic, Peli Motto, who helps him build his new ship. Prequel era fans should recognize the N-1 starfighter before it gets modified. Mando also takes his new ship on a test flight, and he manages to outrun some nosey New Republic pilots.

When Mando returns to Peli’s shop, she tells him that someone came looking for him. That someone was Fennec Shand, and she reintroduces herself to Mando before attempting to hire him to help Boba Fett. Mando refuses to take payment and offers to work for free. However, he insists upon seeing Grogu first.
