It looks like Netflix plans on staying at Keyhouse for the foreseeable future. Earlier this year, the streaming service renewed Locke & Key for a second season, which began production in September. Now, as the cameras continue to roll on the next chapter in the Locke family story, The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Netflix has given the series an early season 3 renewal.
Locke & Key is based on Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez’s acclaimed IDW comic book series of the same name. After various producers spent the better part of a decade trying to get an adaptation off the ground, the show finally premiered on Netflix back in February. The series has received generally favorable reviews, with critics highlighting the performances of its younger cast members as well as the visual effects and set design. According to THR, season 2 will wrap production in Toronto this week. The cast and crew will reconvene next month to start work on season 3.
Co-showrunner Carlton Cuse also issued a statement about Locke & Key’s latest renewal:

“We have some incredible adventures in store for the Locke family in season 3,” said Cuse. “And [we] could not be more excited to continue telling our story with our great partners at Netflix.”
Additionally, Netflix has taken a special interest in Cuse’s fellow showrunner, Meredith Averill, who has writing credits on three episodes of Locke & Key’s first season. The streamer has just inked an overall deal with Averill that covers new film and TV projects. Averill has previously worked as a writer and executive producer on Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House.
“I’m incredibly grateful to have found a home at Netflix where I feel constantly supported, challenged and inspired,” said Averill in her own statement. “I look forward to continuing and expanding our relationship.”
