Taiki Waititi Will Write and Direct Apple’s Time Bandits Series
The director of Thor: Ragnarok and What We Do In the Shadows will soon jump to the past. And he’ll do so with the help of some interesting partners, to say the least.
A report from Deadline confirms that writer/director Taiki Waititi will lend his talents to the forthcoming original series, Time Bandits. The series is currently in development over at Paramount, and it will be a part of Apple’s streaming service. Time Bandits was originally a film by director Terry Gilliam that debuted in 1981. The story follows a young boy who teams up with several mischievous dwarves as they travel through history. Along the way, they avoid the grasp of ultimate Evil.
Gilliam is on board as executive producer of the series, alongside Planet Earth’s Dan Halsted. Media Rights Capital and Anonymous Content will work alongside Paramount Television on the show.
Waititi recently directed an episode for the forthcoming Disney+ Star Wars series, The Mandalorianl. Additionally, Waititi’s next feature film, Jojo Rabbit, will also be released this year.
Time Bandits is still early in production, so story details for the new series aren’t available yet. Apple hasn’t revealed plans for when it will launch its streaming service. However, it’s likely to happen either this year or in 2020.
