Game of Thrones’ Aegon’s Conquest Prequel Gets Exciting Update

The Game of Thrones prequel series about Aegon’s conquest has received promising updates from screenwriter and filmmaker Mattson Tomlin. A prospective project based on that section of the history of George R. R. Martin‘s expansive fictional universe has been in conversation for some time.

In early 2023, various outlets reported that HBO, the home network of Game of Thrones, was eying a show based on Aegon Targaryen‘s conquest of Westeros. About a year later, it was reported that the network had teamed up with Tomlin to bring the project to the small screen.

Mattson Tomlin took to social media and offered a series of updates on the Aegon’s Conquest show. He initially opened up the discussion by asking fans to send him questions while he waited for his flight.

When one fan asked whether Martin is involved in the show, Tomlin confirmed that he was. Another fan enquired how much writing he had done for the show. The screenwriter responded to this by simply posting, “LOTS.”

One fan asked what the one scene was that Tomlin was interested in seeing on the screen. He replied, “The opening scene.”

In a 2024 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Tomlin discussed his first meeting with Martin. “I really take what he [Martin] says as, ‘God is speaking to me.'” he elaborated. “I really do. Because at the end of the day, any question that I could have, anything I don’t understand, there’s a guy who has the answer.”

When asked what his way was into the story, Tomlin stated, “I figured out a way to make it personal. And a lot of what won me the job was relating it to real life.” He also divulged that he was in the middle of writing the pilot at the time and in regular contact with Martin.

Notably, Tomlin contributed to the script of 2022’s The Batman, though he didn’t receive any credits for it. He has since co-written the script of The Batman: Part II.

As things stand, HBO hasn’t reportedly greenlit the Aegon’s Conquest show for production, and it doesn’t have a confirmed release date.
