Season 3 of House of the Dragon has once again triggered online debate following its latest broadcast. The most recent episode leaves the audience with a dramatic cliffhanger surrounding the fate of Lord Corlys Velaryon, leaving viewers questioning whether things are truly as fatal as they appear.
In the closing moments of Episode 6, Lord Corlys prepares to lead his men back to support Queen Rhaenyra’s war effort. Before he can depart, he is confronted by Ser Bold Jon Roxton and a squad of soldiers loyal to Lord Ormund Hightower. A sudden attack breaks out, with an assailant grabbing Corlys from behind and choking him before the scene abruptly cuts away.

Since the episode ends without showing a body, fans immediately began speculating that this could be yet another misdirection. The show does not confirm whether Lord Corlys is dead.
Earlier in the show, viewers were led to believe that Lord Corlys was dead during the Battle of the Gullet, but they later found out he was alive. That has led many fans to believe the latest ending could be another fake-out.
George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood was another one mentioned by fans as well. In the novel, Corlys manages to survive the Dance of the Dragons and remains a significant character.
The fans immediately responded on social media after watching the episode. X user @jKevinQuezada wrote, “So… Corlys Velaryon SURVIVES? RIGHT? Hold on…We’ve literally seen Corlys and Daemon talking in the HOTD S3 trailer… unless that already happened and I somehow MISSED it? He’s alive, right?! He HAS to be!”
Another user, @Vaider5469, believes Corlys may have been captured instead of killed. They wrote, “Corlys capture completely disrupts his entire subsequent plot line and largely deprives the story of dramatic potential it had. It’s a change for the sake of change, and I don’t understand why.”
Meanwhile, @dauntlesseskimo posted, “The Sea Snake didn’t die in HOTD S3E6!… Maybe he was arrested in Episode 6, I believe we shall see more of him in episode 7.”
@htodrecap also referred to the books and wrote, “No, he does not die during the war. Corlys is one of the few main leaders who survives the entire civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons.”
There has been no confirmation from HBO on Corlys’ status and how things will end up.Fans will have to wait until Episode 7, set to release on August 2, 2026, to find out if this is true.
