Wednesday Creator on How Many Seasons There Will Be After Season 2 & 3

Wednesday creator Miles Millar recently discussed the show’s future beyond Season 2, revealing plans for more seasons and lessons from Smallville. He outlined the show’s evolving arc for Wednesday Addams, while director Tim Burton emphasized staying true to her character, praising Jenna Ortega’s subtle performance and instincts.

Wednesday co-creator Miles Millar confirmed that the team is prepared to continue the series as long as Netflix supports it. “We’ll take as many seasons as Netflix wants to give us,” Millar told The Hollywood Reporter. Drawing from his experience on Smallville, which unexpectedly ran for 10 years, he emphasized the importance of flexible long-term planning.

Millar added, “We certainly have a plan for season three and beyond, ways to keep evolving the character and follow her journey into adulthood.” He described Wednesday as “unapologetically analog” and emotionally subtle, which opens opportunities for gradual character development. Season 2 will release in two parts, beginning August 6 and concluding September 3, 2025. Netflix has already renewed the show for a third season.

In another exclusive with The Hollywood Reporter, Tim Burton commented on the creative boundaries essential to maintaining Wednesday’s identity: “The key element always is… that the show could so easily veer away from what that character is. They could try to give her a bigger arc, make her more emotional. Jenna knows how far you can go.” He added, “Jenna’s like a silent movie actor… what I enjoy about her character is not so much the [dialogue] but the way she presents herself.”

Millar and co-creator Alfred Gough are also considering expanding the franchise. “There are a lot of other stories we can tell in this world and other characters we can look at,” Millar said. Though no spinoff has been confirmed, development discussions are underway.

Burton avoided speculating on a definitive episode count: “I don’t think that way. You’re talking to two of the worst people to ask that question.” However, Gough and Millar noted that Nevermore Academy’s full seven-year arc could guide the show’s potential length.
