Huerta debuted as Namor as the main antagonist of Wakanda Forever. Four years later, he joins the massive ensemble battling Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, accompanied again by Mabel Cadena’s Namora and Alex Livinalli’s Attuma.
The character is not a natural team player, but the multiversal threat forces an uncomfortable evolution. Huerta addressed what happens when the Avengers try to command a centuries-old sovereign.
“Well, it’s not good. I mean taking orders, you know, but when they try to, they give him reasons. You know, they explained to him what is happening and why it’s important to be part [of a team] and why it’s important to be part of this war. He understands, and he said, OK, let’s do it. Let’s sacrifice whatever we need,” Huerta explained to ScreenRant.
Wakanda Forever established the MCU’s Namor as a being born in 1571. His mother ingested a vibranium herb while pregnant, leading her Yucatán tribe to develop blue skin and gills, forcing them to build the underwater kingdom of Talokan.
Namor emerged different from his people, mostly human-looking, able to breathe both water and air, and gifted with ankle wings and extraordinary longevity. Ruling for centuries cemented his fierce independence and distrust of surface dwellers.
That film concluded with a hard-won compromise. After Shuri defeated him in combat, Namor agreed to an alliance with Wakanda, recognizing the strategic value for his kingdom. The latest Avengers: Doomsday trailer suggests their next encounter starts badly, yet Huerta’s comments confirm he ultimately commits to the fight.
