Comic book author Robert Kirkman recently opened up about Invincible Season 4 and addressed key developments fans can expect in the upcoming episodes. In a new interview, the series creator discussed the show’s evolving animation challenges, Mark Grayson’s shifting morality, and why viewers should be concerned about where the story is heading next.
Robert Kirkman teases what’s next in Invincible Season 4
Speaking to Deadline, Robert Kirkman said, “We’re trying to make the show an escalating show… so that every season, in some sense, tops the season before it.” He added that Season 4 includes material even tougher to animate than the Conquest battle from Season 3. That fight required more board artists and an extended production schedule.
The new season will also explore Mark Grayson’s moral evolution. Kirkman noted that the Season 3 finale marked a turning point. “By the end of the season, the completion of Mark’s arc is that he’s more aligned with Oliver than he was before.”
Oliver, his half-brother, shows little hesitation in using lethal force, raising concerns about Mark’s direction. “So, by the end of this season, you should be worried for where Mark is headed in Season 4 and beyond,” Kirkman added.
The emotional toll on Mark continues as he grapples with responsibility, trauma, and fear of becoming like Omni-Man. “He’s starting to see more people in the world seeing him the way that Powerplex does,” Kirkman explained. These internal conflicts will shape Mark’s darker path in Season 4.
Kirkman confirmed that the team has cast Thragg and will feature him in Season 4. “Season 4 has more Viltrumite stuff that you might be wanting,” he said, teasing an expansion of the space and alien empire plotlines. Kirkman also highlighted that lessons from The Walking Dead helped streamline Invincible’s adaptation, allowing for better planning of future seasons.
Prime Video has not announced a release date for Invincible Season 4, but the platform expects to release it in 2026. Viewers can stream the first three seasons of Invincible now on Prime Video.
