Spider-Man 4 Reviews: Why Critics Think Movie Holds Huge Key to MCU’s Future

Spider-Man: Brand New Day (Spider-Man 4) is garnering strong early reviews. Critics are praising the film for delivering a narrative that transcends the standard superhero formula. In fact, many note that this will mark a new era for Peter Parker while laying the groundwork for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The latest film follows the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which concluded with the world forgetting Peter Parker’s secret identity. Critics suggest that the film will center around a more self-reliant and mature hero.

On X, Rotten Tomatoes critic Brandon Lewis wrote, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day is an ambitious, mature take on Peter Parker, finally trusting him to (mostly) stand on his own. Cretton crafts excellent scenes of Spidey’s powers, and the emotional beats rank among the MCU’s best. Easily Tom Holland’s most varied, confident MCU work.”

Critic Daniel Baptista said, “#SpiderManBrandNewDay is the Spider-Man movie WE’VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR. Destin Daniel Cretton delivers a purely Spidey-focused story that swings the franchise in a fresh, mature new direction. It’s the superhero film of THIS GENERATION and Tom Holland’s best outing yet.”

The cast also believes the movie marks a fresh start. As reported by Entertainment Weekly, Jacob Batalon said, “It is a Brand New Day after all.” Zendaya added, “Whether or not the day has started…is the question.”

In the movie, Peter tries to rebuild his life after everyone forgets who he is. While he continues protecting New York as Spider-Man, he struggles with watching MJ and Ned move on without remembering him.

What comes next for the MCU after Spider-Man 4?

After Spider-Man 4, Marvel’s next big release is Avengers: Doomsday. It is scheduled to be released on December 18, 2026, and will bring together all the Marvel superheroes. Robert Downey Jr. reprises his role as Doctor Doom. Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s story will be connected to Avengers: Doomsday.

Additionally, the Multiverse Saga will continue in Avengers: Secret Wars, set to debut on December 17, 2027.

Apart from these films, Marvel Studios is also working on Black Panther 3, Ghost Rider, and an X-Men relaunch project to expand the MCU’s narrative beyond the conflict between villain Kang and the superhero team.
