Kathleen Kennedy is still waiting on a Star Wars script from Taika Waititi

The Obi-Wan Kenobi producer recently appeared for an interview, in which she discussed future Star Wars projects that are being developed at Lucasfilm.

As Kathleen Kennedy shared the current status update on each project with Deadline, she disclosed that she had yet to receive a script from director Taika Waititi concerning his Star Wars movie. She told the outlet, “I keep waiting for Taika [Waititi], and he is working with another writer now. He’s so busy.”

The Lucasfilm head expressed her admiration for Waititi’s previous work and added, “I love him. I think if we ever do get a script from Taika, it’s going to be fantastic. I already saw a first act that I loved, but tying him down, it’s tricky.”

Moreover, Kennedy opened up about going for an approach similar to Thor: Ragnarok, for Waititi’s Star Wars film. She added, “That’s exactly the tone we’re always looking for with filmmakers who can pull that off. It’s not like they’re a dime a dozen. You’re really trying to find the diamond in the rough and he’s one of them.”

In a 2023 interview with Entertainment Tonight, Taika Waititi shared an update on his Star Wars project, stating he doesn’t want to rush the movie. He told the outlet, “My thing is I want to take my time with that and get it right. I don’t want to rush this movie.”
