Earlier this year, word broke that former big screen Batman, Christian Bale, was in negotiations for a role in Thor: Love and Thunder. However, Bale’s deal may now be confirmed. Via Collider, Tessa Thompson said that Bale will portray the villain of the sequel.
“I’ve read the [Love and Thunder] script, [and] I can’t tell you much,” said Thompson during an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “Taika [Waititi] is writing and directing…Christian Bale is gonna play our villain; which is gonna be fantastic. It’s gonna be good.”
That would seem to rule Bale out as fan favorite allies like Beta Ray Bill or Balder the Brave. But it also doesn’t narrow down which Thor villain that Bale will portray.
Thor stars Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman will also reunite in the film for the first time since Thor: The Dark World. During her ET interview, Thompson confirmed that her character, Valkyrie will remain on the throne of Asgard. She also hinted at Valkyrie’s quest for a queen.
“She’s king,” said Thompson. “If she can’t find her queen, she’ll just be king and queen at the same time.”
Thor: Love and Thunder will strike theaters on November 5, 2021.
