Hailee Steinfeld Might Be Joining Marvel’s Hawkeye Series

Less than a year after helping to revitalize the Transformers franchise, Hailee Steinfeld could be headed to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Variety is reporting that Marvel Studios has their eye on Hailee Steinfeld for Disney+’s upcoming Hawkeye series. Steinfeld would star as Kate Bishop, who will inherit the title character’s mantle from Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton.

Steinfeld starred as Charlie in Paramount’s Bumblebee spinoff in late 2018. She also lent her voice to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse as Gwen Stacy and will presumably reprise this role in that film’s upcoming sequel and female-centric spinoff. Steinfeld originally made her way onto the industry’s radar when she co-starred in the Coen Brothers’ remake of True Grit. Her performance in that film also earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress in 2011. Next up, Steinfeld will headline Apple TV+’s Dickinson series as the legendary poet Emily Dickinson.

This actually isn’t the first time that Steinfeld has been up to play a fictional archer onscreen. She was once in contention to play Katniss in The Hunger Games franchise before the role went to Jennifer Lawrence.

Hawkeye is currently targeting a Fall 2021 premiere date. Most recently, Marvel tapped former Mad Men scribe Jonathan Igla to serve as showrunner and executive producer. The series is expected to show Kate Bishop training under Renner’s character and ultimately replace him as the MCU’s avenging archer. Since Steinfeld has already demonstrated herself capable of leading a blockbuster film, it seems likely that Marvel will also have her cross over to the big screen as well.
