Mad Men Veteran Jonathan Igla Will Write Marvel’s Hawkeye Series

Marvel’s Hawkeye may never get a solo film of his own, but he is getting a show on Disney+. As one of the last Marvel Studios original series announced at Comic-Con, Hawkeye didn’t have a writer attached…until now.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jonathan Igla has been tapped as the showrunner and executive producer of Hawkeye. Previously, Igla was a writer and an executive story editor on Mad Men for AMC. He also wrote and co-produced Pitch for Fox, and served as the writer and supervising producer of Sorry For Your Loss.

Jeremy Renner will reprise his role as Clint Barton/Hawkeye for the upcoming series. Additionally, the show will mark the live-action debut of Kate Bishop. In the comics, Kate is Clint’s successor as Hawkeye, and he took her under his wing to teach her as much as he could about being a hero.

While most of the story details for the show remain under wraps, the logo for the series and the premise resemble the 2012 Hawkeye comic by Matt Fraction and David Aja. That critically acclaimed comic redefined Clint and Kate’s partnership and dynamic; which could inform their portrayal on the show.

Hawkeye will premiere on Disney+ in fall 2021.
