How MCU Movie’s Cut Post-Credit Scene Ties Into Avengers: Doomsday Revealed — Report

The Fantastic Four: First Steps almost featured a second post-credits scene that would have explained why Chris EvansSteve Rogers is suiting up again for Avengers: Doomsday.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ cut post-credits scene would have teed up Steve Rogers’ MCU return

In March 2025, scooper MyTimeToShineHello shared that Evans was in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. However, just two months later, the scooper claimed that the actor would not actually appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe despite having “filmed something.”

MyTimeToShineHello has now revealed on X that Evans would have appeared in the second post-credits scene of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which would have revealed that Steve Rogers, Peggy Carter, and their unnamed son live on Earth-828.

Evans’ return as Steve Rogers in Avengers: Doomsday was first reported by the trades in December 2024. However, his involvement was not officially confirmed by Marvel Studios until a year later, when he headlined the first teaser trailer for the MCU crossover movie.

Anthony and Joe Russo, who directed Doomsday, explained back in January that Steve will have a significant role in the Avengers movie. “His central role to the Avengers and the larger narrative of what the MCU has been something that is very personal to us. We can’t see this narrative without his central role in it,” they shared.

MyTimeToShineHello previously revealed that Evans will be part of a subplot involving Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Steve looking for Loki. The scooper also noted that “Thor and Steve are already on the Fantastic Four’s ship with Doom before it arrives in the MCU,” as glimpsed in the post-credits scene for Thunderbolts*.

Steve and Thor have one of the best dynamics in the MCU, with their interactions often leading to shared cheers and laughs, such as in Avengers: Infinity War, when the pair compliment each other on their new appearances.

Evans and Hemsworth aren’t the only MCU stars returning for Avengers: Doomsday. Anthony Mackie, Paul Rudd, Simu Liu, Tom Hiddleston, and Letitia Wright will also be reprising their respective roles as Sam Wilson/Captain America, Scott Lang/Ant-Man, Shang-Chi, Loki, and Shuri/Black Panther, among others.

Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to hit theaters on December 18, 2026.
