Disney‘s upcoming live-action Hercules movie has received an interesting new update with potential plot details. The live-action remake has been in development since 2020.
What’s the new rumor about the live-action Hercules movie?
According to The DisInsider, Disney is reportedly scrapping its initial plans to make a more Hades-centric story for the live-action Hercules movie. Because of the theatrical success of the Lilo & Stitch remake, the outlet claimed that the remake is now a faithful adaptation of the 1997 animated movie. This plot change has reportedly put the project in limbo.
“Latest I have heard regarding the project is that they are moving away from the Hades-centric story to be a more accurate remake of the animated original (you can thank the success of Lilo & Stitch for that), which has put this project in limbo as a new script is being written. We probably won’t hear much regarding this project until D23 next year,” the outlet shared.
Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo are still attached to produce the upcoming remake through their AGBO banner. Aladdin director Guy Ritchie is also expected to helm the live-action project, with Dave Callaham writing the screenplay. It currently has no official release date attached to it yet.
The original film, which starred Tate Donovan (Rocketman) in the titular role, was a musical retelling of the iconic Hercules legend in which the son of Zeus is stripped of his immortality by Hades in an effort to ensure his plans of conquering Mount Olympus in 18 years. His plans don’t go as successfully as he intended, as Hercules is left with his superhuman strength intact, and the hero goes on a journey to protect his home along with humanity. The original voice cast also included Danny DeVito, James Woods, and Susan Egan.
