Spider-Man’s Vulture Was Originally Tied to a Different MCU Character | Exclusive

Somewhere out there in the multiverse, Spider-Man: Homecoming’s Vulture could be a different MCU character’s main villain.

Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man: Homecoming was released in 2017. Directed by Jon Watts, the movie stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Michael Keaton as Adrian Toomes/Vulture. It’s been followed by two direct sequels, 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home and 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, while a fourth film is now in the works and scheduled to arrive next July.

Who was Spider-Man’s Vulture originally tied to in the MCU?

SuperHeroHype has an exclusive preview of Marvel Studios’ The Infinity Saga – Spider-Man: Homecoming – The Art of the Movie, which is written by Eleni Roussos and published by Titan Books.

On one of the pages that can be seen in the preview, conceptual artist Josh Nizzi writes, “Initially, the Vulture was going to be somebody with previous ties to the Falcon, so we purposely tied him visually to that a little bit, with an ex-military look. The wings and gear were always supposed to look a bit cobbled-together, kind of like a prototype version — a larger, clunkier version of what the Falcon has.”

Keaton’s Vulture and Anthony Mackie’s Falcon/Sam Wilson, who has since been promoted to Marvel’s Captain America, have yet to cross paths in the MCU. While it’s unclear if they ever will, Danny Ramirez’s Joaquin Torres has now assumed the mantle of Falcon, so there’s always the possibility that they could do more with Toomes. Having said that, the character was last seen in the post-credit scene of 2022’s Morbius, and there doesn’t seem to be any plans at Marvel or Sony to continue that storyline.
