Sonic 4 Won’t Feature Fan-Favorite Character — Report

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 reportedly won’t introduce a popular character from the video games.

Paramount Pictures and Sega Sammy Group’s Sonic film franchise began in 2020 with Sonic the Hedgehog. That was followed by two sequels, 2022’s Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and 2024’s Sonic the Hedgehog 3, while there was also a spin-off TV series titled Knuckles that premiered in 2024. Jeff Fowler directed all three films and the Knuckles pilot.

Sonic 4 is now in the works. While not many details about the project have been revealed as of yet, it is scheduled to arrive in 2027.

According to scooper Daniel Richtman, Silver the Hedgehog won’t be showing up in Sonic 4, despite there being much speculation that he might.

Silver the Hedgehog is equipped with the power of psychokinesis, meaning he has the power to move things with his mind. He is a time-traveler who hails from the future but often visits the past in order to prevent disasters from destroying the world. The character first appeared in 2006’s Sonic the Hedgehog and has since been featured in many other games.

Many fans speculated that Silver would likely appear in Sonic 4 as the new sequel movie is expected to play into time travel, though this has not been officially confirmed by Paramount. Richtman also recently reported that the title for Sonic 4 could wind up being Sonic CD, which is the name of the 1993 platform game that introduced time travel as a game mechanic.

It’s worth noting that the post-credit scene of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 did introduce Amy Rose and Metal Sonic into the film franchise. Both of those characters originally debuted in Sonic CD.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 will be released in United States theaters on March 19, 2027.
