The Star Wars Rey movie has received an exciting update.
Lucasfilm is currently developing a Star Wars movie focused on Rey Skywalker, the character played by Daisy Ridley who debuted in 2015’s The Force Awakens. The new film is being directed by Mrs. Marvel’s Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.
What is the update on the Star Wars Rey movie?
According to scooper Daniel Richtman, the Star Wars Rey movie will begin filming at some point in 2026.
While this may still be a ways off, it’s a promising update given that Lucasfilm has had a difficult time getting Star Wars projects off the ground. The Rey movie was originally reported to be in the works back in 2022, and a number of people — including Damon Lindelof, Justin Britt-Gibson, and Steven Knight — have left the project since then.
It is, however, important to note that this is only a rumor at this time, as there has been no official confirmation from Lucasfilm about the Star Wars Rey movie’s production.
The Rey movie will be set after the events of Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker and is said to follow Rey as she creates a new Jedi Order. Further plot details remain under wraps at this time. No release date has been set.
The next Star Wars movie will be The Mandalorian and Grogu, which arrives on May 22, 2026. A continuation of The Mandalorian Disney+ show, the film is being directed by Jon Favreau and produced by Dave Filoni. Pedro Pascal will reprise his role as Din Djarin, while the cast also includes Sigourney Weaver and Jeremy Allen White.
After that, Star Wars: Starfighter will be released on May 28, 2027. Shawn Levy is directing that one, while Ryan Gosling has been tapped. Star Wars: Starfighter will also be set after the events of Rise of Skywalker.
