Netflix Announces Film and Anime Plans For Keanu Reeves’ BRZRKR

Earlier this month, Keanu Reeves made his comic book writing debut with BRZRKR, a 12-issue miniseries co-authored with Matt Kindt and featuring artwork by Ron Garney. Even before the first issue hit stores, it was obvious that Reeves harbored plans for a big-screen adaptation down the line because the lead character was clearly based on his likeness. Now, those plans are about to become a reality. Via Variety, Netflix is getting ready to turn BRZKR into not only a movie, but an anime series as well.

The series follows B, an immortal warrior who has spent nearly 100,000 years wandering the Earth, cursed to lead a life of violence. But when the U.S. government promises B “the truth about his endless blood-soaked existence” in exchange for fighting their most dangerous battles, he immediately accepts, especially if it offers him a way out.

Naturally, Reeves will headline Netflix’s movie and provide the title character’s voice on the anime series. The BRZRKR comic was originally funded through a Kickstarter campaign last fall. BOOM! Studios finally released the first issue a few weeks ago. A trade paperback collection of the first four chapters is also set to hit stores in October.

Meanwhile, Reeves’ is still enjoying a high point in his film career. His next movie, The Matrix 4, is set to hit theaters and HBO Max on December 22. Reeves is also expected to start production on John Wick 4 in the coming weeks.
