They get their hands on the device, which they found on the Quinjet, and take it to space in order to connect with them.
This is because they knew Nova Corps might have a cure to deal with the situation. When they decide to leave the Earth, they are blocked from doing so. That’s when it strikes the heroes that the Nova Corps is fully aware of the outbreak, and they intentionally block individuals from escaping the planet. They warned the heroes to return to Earth. When they didn’t, they destroyed their ship.
The Nova Corps was fully aware of the dangers the outbreak could cause if it spread further. They knew there were powerful forces out there, causing even more catastrophic losses. Like the incredibly powerful Scarlet Witch, who was able to take down heroes and the Infinity Hulk. They wanted to contain the damage and not increase it, so they refused to help.
