Many Andor fans are wondering about what happened to Davo Sculdun, the rich banker responsible for helping Mon Mothma funnel money to the Rebel Alliance. The final sequence of Andor Season 2 that rolls straight into Rogue One doesn’t show Davo Sculdun. In fact, this means that the last time we see this Chandrilan financier is the sixth episode of season two, way back in 3 BBY when he is hosting a party that Luthen, Mon Mothma, Kleya, and even Krennic attend. So it’s fair to ask what was going on with Davo Sculdun during the latter half of the season and what would be the most likely scenario for his future in Star Wars.
What is the ending for Davo Sculdun after Andor Season 2?
It is suggested that Davo Sculdun becomes a Senator in the Imperial Senate during Andor Season 2 and remains in his position after the finale, though his marriage is in danger of falling apart.
This was a rather subtle detail in Episode 6, “What a Festive Evening,” so it’s very easy to miss, but the soirée at Davo Sculdun’s office is actually a Senate investiture party; as in, it’s a celebration of Sculdun officially becoming a Senator. Bail Organa reveals this fact when he leaves the banquet and tells Mon Mothma and Perrin that this “was my last Investiture Party of the season.” As a reminder, the party is attended by Luthen Rael and Kleya Marki so that she can remove a listening device from one of artifacts in Sculdun’s collection, the Tinian Codex, and by important Imperial officials including Lonni Jung, Heert, and Orson Kreenic.
This reveals that Davo Sculdun has significant political power and is an effective social climber, building upon his connection to Mon Mothma through his son’s marriage to her daughter Leida. Despite his reputation as a “thug,” according to Mon at least, his ability to launder money is second to none, being able to hide Mothma’s 400,000 credits as a donation to the rebellion despite the Empire cracking down on financial transactions in the first season. His financial connection to Mon Mothma is jeopardized by Tay Kolma, to the point that Luthen effectively orders him to be assassinated.
What is difficult to discern is what happens to Davo after Mon Mothma resigns from the Senate after her infamous speech castigating Emperor Palpatine. Some fans theories say that the ISB would have interrogated Davo thoroughly and that’s he in a jail cell somewhere, but that’s only if they were to discover his connection to either Mothma or Luthen. He has powerful contacts within the Empire and is an expert at hiding funds, so it wouldn’t be too surprising if he avoids suspicion altogether, especially during a time when the ISB is far more focused on Mothma, the events in Ghorman, and the construction of The Death Star.
It’s also unclear how much Davo Sculdun is still a part of the Rebellion by this time. He likely knows where Mothma’s funds are actually going and has continued to funnel money to them, but at the same time Kleya placed a listening device in his collection. Tony Gilroy revealed in an official Star Wars feature that “Luthen could be working for Davo Sculdun” as part of his artifact business, but the listening device suggests that he is out of the loop when he comes to the rebel spy network.
What is clearer, though, is that his wife, Runai Sculdun, is having an affair with Perrin Fertha by the end of the show. We see Runai sleeping on Perrin’s shoulder in a limo on Coruscant while grasping a bottle of alcohol, which he takes from her before taking a swig himself. This suggests that Davo is likely too busy as a Senator and doesn’t have much of a love life with his wife, which wouldn’t be out of step for someone who has used marriage in the past for political advancement rather than romance.
