Curious about all the Easter eggs hidden in the new Superman trailer and wondering whether Superman is truly a threat or just part of Lex Luthor’s plan? As James Gunn’s DC Universe begins, the trailer packs in subtle references, new heroes, and deep-cut comic nods that hint at what’s coming.
Here’s a breakdown of every Easter egg in the trailer, and what they reveal about the DCU’s future.
List of easter eggs and DC references in Superman’s new trailer
Waid Street – Tribute to Mark Waid
Superman is walked in cuffs down Waid Street, a nod to comic writer Mark Waid. Waid wrote Kingdom Come and Superman: Birthright, both major inspirations for the film. The scene features Superman flanked by Rick Flag Sr., the Engineer, and Ultraman.
Ross Street and Swan’s Books
Superman rescues a girl outside Ross Street, referencing Kingdom Come artist Alex Ross. Nearby is Swan’s Books, named after Curt Swan, a legendary Superman artist. The store’s address, 712 N. Reeves Ave., honors George Reeves, the 1950s Superman actor.
Moore Street – Alan Moore Reference
Superman lands in front of Moore Street, a tribute to writer Alan Moore. He authored classic Superman stories like Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow and For the Man Who Has Everything.
LordTech
Maxwell Lord’s company LordTech backs the Justice Gang, which includes Guy Gardner, Hawkgirl, and Mr. Terrific. Their uniforms, Lois’s recorder, and city buildings all feature LordTech branding. This mirrors the comics, where Lord transformed the Justice League into a global peacekeeping force.
The Hammer of Boravia
A new villain in green and purple armor attacks Metropolis. The armor resembles Lex Luthor’s tech, suggesting he supplied both sides of the Boravia–Jarhanpur war. The conflict is detailed in a Daily Planet article written by Clark Kent.
Metamorpho’s DCU Debut
Metamorpho, played by Anthony Carrigan, appears in a glass prison cell next to Superman, hinting at his capture by LuthorCorp. In the comics, Rex Mason gains his elemental powers after an accident caused by Simon Stagg — also seen in the trailer. The film shows him shape-shifting his hand into green kryptonite, weakening Superman, and suggesting his forced role in Luthor’s metahuman agenda.
Guy Gardner’s Green Lantern Powers
Guy Gardner forms giant green constructs, including a swatting hand and energy shield, using his power ring. His over-the-top attitude matches his comic book counterpart from the Justice League International.
The Engineer
Angela Spica uses liquid metal nanotech to create weapons and tear through Superman’s Fortress of Solitude defenses. She is a member of the Authority and appears aligned with Lex Luthor in this film.
