Marvel fans believe Hawkeye Season 2 will get canceled amidst speculation surrounding Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton return in the potential new installment. Recent developments have sparked rumors that the series might not move forward as planned, and the reasons behind these concerns involve the actor.
Could Hawkeye Season 2 get canceled?
While Marvel Studios hasn’t officially confirmed whether Hawkeye Season 2 is happening or getting cancelled, recent news suggests that the project appears to face major snags, the biggest one being Jeremy Renner not returning for the series.
In an interview with High Performance (via Variety), Renner revealed that Disney offered him “half” of his original salary to return for Hawkeye Season 2. “They asked me to do Season 2, and they offered me half the money.” the actor shared. “I’m like, ‘Well, it’s going to take me twice the amount of work for half the amount of money, and eight months of my time, essentially, to do it for half the amount.’”
He described the offer as an “insult,” and suggested his near-fatal snowplow accident in 2023 is the reason behind it. He said, “I’m like, ‘I’m sorry? Why? Did you think I’m only half the Jeremy because I got ran over? Maybe that’s why you want to pay me half of what I made on the first season.’”
While Renner expressed love for the role, he refused to accept the deal.
Will Jeremy Renner return in Hawkeye Season 2 after all?
Despite the current standoff, Jeremy Renner hasn’t completely closed the door on returning in Hawkeye Season 2. He stated that he would “love” to reprise his role if given a fair offer. However, according to a new rumor from insider MyTimeToShineHello on X (formerly Twitter), Hawkeye Season 2 is still in development but with Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop as the lead instead. This wouldn’t be entirely surprising, as Season 1 already set up Kate as Clint’s successor. Now, fans will have to wait and see what happens next.
