Gundam GQuuuuuuX: What Happened to Amuro Ray?

Fans are wondering where Amuro Ray is in Gundam GQuuuuuuX. In the series’ alternate take on the One Year War, Char steals the Gundam before Amuro can reach it and commandeers the White Base. As such, Amuro never becomes the hero of the Earth Federation. So, we’re forced to wonder what happens to Amuro in Gundam GQuX.

Is Amuro Ray in Gundam GQuuuuuuX?

In the original Mobile Suit Gundam anime, Char commanded the raid on Side 7 from his Musai instead of personally deploying alongside Gene and Denim. Without Char present to rein him in, Gene decides to attack the Project V suits in an attempt to impress his superiors. The sounds of the attack cause Amuro to flee his shelter in an attempt to find his father. Along the way, he stumbles onto the manual for the RX-78-2 Gundam and pilots it to fight off the Zeon attack.

So far, Amuro hasn’t been shown in Gundam GQuuuuuuX. In the alternate universe, Char deploys alongside Gene and Denim, and his squad doesn’t cause major damage to Side 7, so Amuro never shows up. So, Char spots the Gundam first and steals it. The only casualties of the raid seem to be the Federation officers on the White Base bridge. So, it’s doubtful that Amuro was killed during the raid.

In the six years that have passed between the One Year War and the events in Gundam GQuuuuuuX, any number of things could have happened to Amuro:

• He could have stayed in Side 7 and never became a soldier.
• He could have joined the EFF or Zeon, but his Newtype powers never awoke.
• He could have played a big part in history, but he has just not been mentioned yet.

It seems unlikely that a powerful Newtype like Amuro wouldn’t have become a major player in Universal Century history, even without acquiring the Gundam. Perhaps his fate will be revealed in a future episode, or the writers on GQuuuuuuX have just decided to ignore him to focus on Char’s fate in this alternative UC.
