Disney’s Descendants Franchise Expands With Surprising New Movie, Title & Plot Revealed

Disney is officially expanding its hit Descendants franchise with a new movie set to highlight the next generation of iconic Disney sidekicks. With this upcoming installment, the fan-favorite musical series is shifting its core focus away from the children of famous heroes and villains.

On Friday, Disney officially announced the expansion. Greenlit for Disney Channel and Disney+, Hidden Heroes: A Descendants Story promises a musical extravaganza that “centers on the journey of the unsung heroes behind Disney’s greatest adventures.”

How Hidden Heroes expands the Descendants universe beyond heroes and villains

Hidden Heroes: A Descendants Story will focus on the next generation of Disney sidekicks, marking a departure from previous franchise installments that centered primarily on the children of iconic heroes and villains.

According to the movie’s official logline, the story unfolds at a secret training facility where “descendants of legendary sidekicks are challenged to join the elite ranks of hero partners.” Chaos ensues within the academy when a villainous duo hatches a plan, forcing a team of new recruits to unite and master their skills to save the fairytale realm.

The cast of Hidden Heroes includes Dior Goodjohn as Jennie, the daughter of Genie from Aladdin. Additionally, Momona Tamada plays Yzma’s daughter Zara, and Jacob Rodriguez plays Kronk’s son Kronk Jr. from The Emperor’s New Groove. Eva Fossaceca Smedley stars as Meri, daughter of Merryweather from Sleeping Beauty. Finally, Harry Jones plays Lou, son of Lumiere from Beauty and the Beast.

Rhys Dawkins, Connor Wong and Kyra Wong also join the cast as the Potts siblings from Beauty and the Beast.

“With Hidden Heroes, we’re finally putting the sidekicks center stage, because they’ve always been an essential part of Disney’s greatest adventures,” Ayo Davis, president of Disney Kids & Family, said in a statement. “It’s a fun, surprising new chapter that expands the Descendants universe with all the music, dance and heart fans love and expect from the franchise,” she added.

Jude Weng is directing Hidden Heroes, with the screenplay by Tamara Chestna, Eydie Faye and Emma Fletcher.
