More Info on Dredd

The new adaptation to star Karl Urban

IM Global has posted more info on the new Judge Dredd film to be titled Dredd:

DREDD takes us to the wild streets of Mega City One, the lone oasis of quasi-civilization on Cursed Earth. Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is the most feared of elite Street Judges, with the power to enforce the law, sentence offenders and execute them on the spot - if necessary. The endlessly inventive mind of writer Alex Garland and the frenetic vision of director Peter Travis bring DREDD to life as a futuristic neo-noir action film that returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra's revered comic strip.

It was announced on Friday that Olivia Thirlby will play Judge Cassandra Anderson, a psychically powered rookie Judge who teams with Judge Dredd for training.

Potential
Honestly, I'm really excited for this in the same way the Batman series got its reboot.

A lot of people never have seen the world of Judge Dredd outside the Stallone version and that's a shame because it's pretty dark.

Getting rid of all the campy dialogue and Rob Schneider, this film is going to be great. I can feel it.

For some reason I just can't get excited about this and I really want to because I like Karl Urban and I like the idea of a proper Judge Dredd movie. However, I get the feeling that it will turn out to be like The Punisher movies, specifically the 2nd one. Where they are more concerned about making sure it's a definite R-rated action movie with lots of violence but seem to forget to write a good story with characters I can be invested in.

In the neo-noir version, DREDD struggles with the fact that his judgements border on moral ambiguity - especially when he is a part of an elitist society where the law is enforced rather than served. It's Orwell's 1984 told from the OTHER side!

Or at least I hope that's how the movie gets.

The old....
"I did not beak the law,....I AM THE LAW!"

That's the one line from Stalone's version that will forever live on in the Judge Dredd universe.

@ RedFireWalker

First leading role?? thought his first leading good guy role was in the film DOOM most of the story was about the character he played REAPER, even tho the rock was in it, rock was not the lead man, more like the bad guy.
