A new Game of Thrones: War for Westeros teaser offers an early glimpse of Westeros along with fresh developments. The upcoming real-time strategy game from PlaySide Studios was first announced last year, in 2025. Following a lengthy period of silence, the developer is gearing up to market the game ahead of this year’s busy gaming schedule.
The new teaser is short, showing several soldiers on a battlefield charging into war as a dragon flies above them. Gameplay clips show the dragon burning most of them to death. Previously, PlaySide revealed several new additions to the game, including details on combat units, different Houses, their abilities, and in-game locations.

What does the latest War for Westeros update reveal beyond the teaser
The teaser ends with the announcement of a proper gameplay reveal coming later at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026. The event will take place in Cologne, Germany, on August 25, 2026. Hosted by Geoff Keighley, the showcase will include many game trailers and world premieres.
Game of Thrones: War for Westeros was originally revealed at Summer Game Fest last year, which was also hosted by Keighley. The game has an early 2027 release window, and fans are expecting a proper release date announcement either at its Gamescom showing or during the Game Awards later this year.
War for Westeros will be the first new Game of Thrones video game since the release of GOT: Kingsroad earlier this year. It won’t be the franchise’s latest real-time strategy game, following other titles like A Game of Thrones: Genesis and Game of Thrones: Winter is Coming.
Furthermore, the Game of Thrones: War for Westeros teaser arrives just a few days after the season 3 finale of Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon.
Game of Thrones: War for Westeros is in development for PC.
