Baldur’s Gate 3 Xbox Release Gets a Promising Update

Baldur’s Gate 3 developer Larian Studios has offered a promising update about the status of the game’s Xbox Series X|S release.

Larian founder and CEO Swen Vincke posted to X/Twitter to confirm the developer’s plans for the Xbox version. “Latest on the Xbox – being actively playtested, still on schedule for this year,” he said. “We’ll announce the exact release date when we’re sure it’s done.”

While Baldur’s Gate 3 launched for PC in August and PlayStation 5 in September, Larian withheld the Xbox version over co-op split-screen issues. According to the company, it struggled to make split-screen performance equal between the Xbox Series S and X.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Xbox Versions Arriving in 2023

Earlier this year, Vincke stated the Xbox version would launch sometime between September and November. In August, Larian confirmed that part of its solution for the Xbox issue included the removal of the split-screen co-op on Series S. However, it left the door open to add the feature later on. Typically, the Series S and the Series X included the same core features, making this a departure.

Baldur’s Gate 3 initially launched for Early Access in October 2020. Over the next three years, it underwent an assortment of updates and changes, periodically adding features like new races and classes. The Dungeons & Dragons-based RPG finally launched its full version in August 2023 for PC to rave reviews. The PlayStation 5 version received similar acclaim at its release in September. The game quickly garnered a following for its story and well-written characters.

While the Xbox awaits Baldur’s Gate 3, the game has undergone several updates since its full launch. Some complained about the endings for some of the companions, particularly Karlach, leading to additional content to remedy the issue. In September, Larian announced a long-awaited patch that would allow players to change their appearance in camp. That feature has been a popular request since Early Access.

Baldur’s Gate 3’s Xbox S|X versions do not yet have a set release date.
