Dead By Daylight’s Stranger Things Expansion Gets a Release Date

Behaviour Interactive’s Dead by Daylight is about to get a little bit…stranger. As in, Stranger Things. The publisher of the hit multiplayer game announced a release date for the expansion, which will introduce the Demogorgon as a “killer”. It will debut on September 17 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. The game will also debut on Nintendo Switch starting September 24, but there’s no word if it’ll have the Stranger Things expansion just yet.

In the DLC, players can choose either between two survivors, Steve Harrington or Nancy Wheeler, as well as the Demogorgon. They’ll be able to choose their side and then plan their strategies over the course of the match.

The development team showed off a hint of gameplay footage featuring the creature, included below. One of its main abilities appears to be creating portals, which it can use to get around the map quickly. Survivors have the opportunity to close these portals, but it will also alert the Demogorgon to their presence.

Additionally, once above ground, the Demogorgon can unleash a jumping attack to catch up with running survivors. However, if it misses, it will need a few seconds to regain its momentum before continuing its pursuit.

Behaviour Interactive introduced the promotional tie-in with the Netflix series last month, following the debut of its third season. “The Stranger Things Chapter comes with a new map, the Underground Complex,” it noted at the time of its announcement. “Located below the Hawking National Laboratory, this grim compound was once the setting for terrible experiments. One of these experiments caused an inter-dimensional rift to open, releasing dozens of monstrous creatures before being sealed off.”

Dead by Daylight has seen integration from characters in popular movies in the past. These include the “Ghost Face” killer from Scream, Michael Myers from Halloween, and, more recently, the debut of Ash (as a Survivor) from The Evil Dead.

A new behind-the-scenes trailer for the downloadable content is below, detailing its creation. It features new footage, for those that want to give it a closer look.
