Square Enix Announces New Publishing Line

One of the most successful video game developers is entering the U.S. publishing market. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Square Enix has struck a deal with Penguin Random House Publisher Services that will allow them to release their own line of novels, manga, and more.

For more than 30 years, Square Enix has been responsible for some of the video game industry’s highest-selling franchises. Their roster includes Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, and Dragon Quest titles. Starting in 2010, they also took over as publisher of the Tomb Raider series from Eidos Interactive.

“We are excited to have this opportunity to introduce our wide variety of books with the help of PRHPS to our new readers,” said Katsuyoshi Matsuura, executive officer and Square Enix’s vice president of the publication business unit.

Penguin Random House Publisher Services president Jeff Abraham also shared his excitement about the new collaboration.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with Square Enix for their venture into the worldwide, English-speaking market,” said Abraham. “We see significant opportunity for their exciting and original program to succeed here.”

It looks like the first offering from this new American publishing line will be Final Fantasy XV: The Dawn of the Future. That novel was previously released in Japan earlier this year. Fans can also expect translated editions of manga titles like Hi Score Girl, A Man and His Cat, and the complete edition of Soul Eater.
