James Gunn has shared an intriguing new motion poster for Lanterns. The show will introduce John Stewart and Hal Jordan to the DC Universe.
What do we see in the new Lanterns poster?
The poster, shared on social media, shows a power ring radiating its signature green glow as it rests on a small puddle of water. As the camera pulls back, two silhouettes of Stewart and Jordan come into view. The poster features part of the Green Lantern’s motto, “In blackest day, in blackest night.”
Lanterns will follow the two heroes as they investigate a mystery with great ramifications for the wider DCU. While HBO has yet to announce a renewal, recent rumors suggested the show has already added an acclaimed creator for a second season. In fact, the creator in question accidentally confirmed the news himself. Another rumor points to a major character death in the show, which, if true, could be a huge mistake for the cinematic universe.
The show’s most recent trailer also gave fans a glimpse of Nathan Fillion returning as Guy Gardner from Superman.
Lanterns stars Kyle Chandler, Aaron Pierre, Kelly Macdonald, Nathan Fillion, Ulrich Thomsen, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, Nicole Ari Parker, Chris Coy, Jason Ritter, Sherman Augustus, Cary Christopher, Paul-Ben Victor, Paula Patton, and Laura Linney.

DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn confirmed that Lanterns will be an eight-hour adventure. Following that, Aaron Pierre will reprise the role of John Stewart in James Gunn’s Man of Tomorrow.
The Lanterns pilot is co-written by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King, who are co-creators of the series. Mundy serves as Lanterns’ showrunner. James Hawes directed the first two episodes. Other directors include Stephen Williams, Geeta Vasant Patel, and Alik Sakharov. The series is executive produced by Mundy, Lindelof, King, James Gunn, Peter Safran, Ron Schmidt, and Hawes.
Lanterns will premiere on August 16, 2026, on HBO and HBO Max.
