Amazon is Developing a Live-Action She-Ra TV Series

Last year, the animated revival of She-Ra came to an end. While Netflix’s She-Ra and the Princesses of Power is over, She-Ra’s new adventures are just beginning.

Variety is reporting that a live-action She-Ra TV series is “in early development at Amazon.” DreamWorks Animation is also attached to executive produce the series. However, the report notes that this will not be an adaptation of the last She-Ra cartoon. Instead, it “will be a new, standalone story and will not be connected to the animated show.”

One element that seems likely to remain the same between the cartoon and the new series is a removal of He-Man from She-Ra’s backstory. As originally introduced, She-Ra was the alter ego of Princess Adora, the twin sister of Prince Adam/He-Man. However, Princesses of Power changed Adora’s backstory and origin. Regardless, that show now has its own fans and a following. To a generation of viewers, that’s their She-Ra.

Amazon hasn’t hired a writer for the project yet. But as one of Mattel’s most prominent licenses, She-Ra has a pretty good chance of going forward.
