Chloe Bennet Leaves The CW’s New Powerpuff Pilot

Last spring, the live-action Powerpuff revival was not ordered to series by The CW. At the time, The CW’s CEO Mark Pedowitz described Powerpuff‘s pilot as “just a miss.” Regardless, the creative team and cast were given a second chance to make a new pilot. However, one of the adult Powerpuff Girls is now leaving the potential show.

Variety broke the story that former Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. star Chloe Bennet has left the project over scheduling conflicts. Bennet was set to play Blossom, the “spunky, conscientious, Little-Miss-Perfect child who holds several advanced degrees.” Like her siblings, Blossom was also traumatized by her childhood superhero experiences. But she would also rediscover the qualities that made her the team leader.

Dove Cameron and Yana Perrault will still play Bubbles and Buttercup, respectively.

In the first pilot, Donald Faison played the Powerpuff Girls’ father/creator, Professor Drake Utonium. Nicholas Podany played Joseph “Jojo” Mondel Jr., the son of Mojo Jojo. According to Variety, talks are “ongoing” for them to return.

Diablo Cody and Heather Regnier wrote and produced the first Powerpuff pilot. They will also remain with the new pilot, but it’s unclear if Maggie Kiley will return to the director’s chair as well.
