Stargirl Moves From DC Universe To The CW For Season 2

A few months before Stargirl premiered, DC Universe and The CW announced a unique arrangement to share the series. However, that shared custody will come to an end with the current season. Via Variety, The CW has renewed Stargirl for a second season. However, as part of the renewal, Stargirl will no longer stream on DC Universe.

According to the report, Stargirl has averaged 0.2 and 0.4 ratings among adults 19-49 in Nelson Live+Same Day and Live+3 ratings. That translates to over 1 million and 1.5 million viewers, respectively. Those numbers put Stargirl on par with the rest of the DC series on The CW. Regardless, Stargirl is only lightly connected to the Arrowverse through a cameo appearance in Crisis on Infinite Earths.

The news appears to be another blow for DC Universe, which has lost or shared most of its original content with other partners. HBO Max is currently streaming Doom Patrol alongside DC Universe. Additionally, the breakout adult animated series, Harley Quinn, is also heading to HBO Max. Titans and Young Justice appear to be the only DC Universe original shows that haven’t jumped to other outlets yet. And if DC Universe loses all of its shows, it’s an open question about how long the service can continue.
