Marvel Puts the Animated Tigra & Dazzler Show On Hold

Earlier this year, Marvel announced that it was teaming up with Hulu to develop four new adult-themed animated superhero series. But now, one of those projects is being put on the backburner after a major creative shakeup. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel has parted ways with the entire writing staff of the Tigra & Dazzler Show.

Tigra & Dazzler Show was being spearheaded by Erica Rivinoja, who previously wrote and produced shows like South Park and The Last Man on Earth. She also co-wrote the story for the film Girls Trip in 2017. Rivinoja and her writers had evidently finished scripts and outlines for multiple episodes by the time they were let go. THR also notes that they were “15 weeks into a planned 20-week production cycle.” Fortunately, the report insists that Marvel isn’t going to abandon the series entirely. Instead, they’ll hire a new showrunner and start over from scratch.

Back in February, Marvel and Hulu revealed plans to produce shows featuring M.O.D.O.K., Hit-Monkey, and Howard the Duck. These characters will eventually join forces in a special titled The Offenders (an obvious play on Netflix’s The Defenders). News of Tigra & Dazzler Show’s delay comes as Marvel Television is undergoing big changes, with Jeph Loeb on his way out as Executive VP and Kevin Feige assuming his new role as Chief Creative Officer for all of Marvel. However, THR’s sources say that Tigra & Dazzler’s current fate is unrelated to those changes.

Tigra & Dazzler Show’s writing staff also notably included comedian and talk show host Chelsea Handler. But in spite of this new development, Handler apparently remains attached to the series as an executive producer. Additionally, she’ll voice one of the two main characters.
