New Line Gets Power and Glory

New Line has bought film rights to Howard Chaykin’s graphic novel Power and Glory and has set up the project with Chris Bender and JC Spink through their Benderspink production company, reports Variety.

Chaykin’s story centers on a crime fighter who’s genetically engineered to be a superhero but fears using his powers and needs to be teamed with a former CIA agent. Power and Glory was first published as a Malibu Comics series in the 1990s.

The studio has tapped the writing duo of Damien Shannon and Mark Swift (Freddy vs. Jason) to adapt.

Chaykin was one of the first writers of graphic novels and was also the artist of the comic adaptation of “Star Wars”. Some of his best known titles include “American Flagg,” “Black Kiss,” “Mighty Love” and “City of Tomorrow.” He also worked as a writer on Mutant X.
