The James Bond casting race just entered its final stretch with a surprising new deadline. A new insider report reveals exactly how close the franchise is to officially announcing its next 007.
James Bond’s casting rumored to be announced before November
The James Bond franchise appears closer than ever to announcing its next leading man. Insider MyTimeToShineHello posted on X that “the James Bond casting is at the finish line with only few remaining.” The scooper added that the studio expects to announce the casting in October.
Bond producer Amy Pascal recently told Deadline that “the end of the year is a good bet” for the announcement. She emphasized the team’s careful approach to replacing Daniel Craig in the iconic role. Pascal stated they want something “stirring, and exciting, and different” for the franchise’s new chapter.
Amazon and producers David Heyman and Pascal have assembled key creative talent behind the scenes. Denis Villeneuve will direct Bond 26, while Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight writes the script. The studio confirmed in May that the auditioning process was officially underway.
Deadline reported in June that the shortlist had been narrowed down significantly. Sources indicated the final group could range from “five to seven” actors to a number “in the teens.” Villeneuve reportedly began reaching out to leading candidates directly by phone.
Callum Turner currently sits atop most bookmakers’ lists as the frontrunner for the role. His odds have been slashed since November across the vast majority of betting markets. Other prominent candidates include Jacob Elordi, Harris Dickinson, Jack Lowden, and Tom Francis.
Richard Osman recently revealed on the Rest is Entertainment podcast that he had specifically heard Jack Lowden’s name. He clarified that Lowden “is definitely being considered,” but nothing remains concrete yet (via The Independent). Tom Holland has also entered the conversation after Amy Pascal’s involvement as his Spider-Man producer.
Reports suggest Amazon wants an actor young enough to sustain multiple films in the franchise. The studio aims to begin production on Bond 26 in 2027.
